Whip Cracker Trophy

The Whip Cracker Trophy Series is an inaugural passage racing series run by the Hervey Bay Boat Club Yacht Squadron, featuring four offshore races across the waters of Hervey Bay and the Great Sandy Strait to destinations along K'gari (Fraser Island).

The series is open to all trailer-able and keeled monohull and multihull boats, with courses taking competitors from Urangan Boat Harbour to Kingfisher Bay Resort, Yankee Jack Creek, and Wathumba Creek.

Race Schedule

Race 1 — Urangan to Kingfisher Bay Resort*

Race 2 — Urangan to Kingfisher Bay Resort *

Race 3 — Urangan to Yankee Jack Creek *

Race 4 — Urangan to Wathumba Creek *

*Destinations are dependent on weather.

Eligibility & Entry

The series is open to boats that have a minimum length of 4.8m and comply with Australian Sailing Special Regulations — Category 6. There is one combined mixed fleet category for monohulls and multihulls. Three races sailed will constitute a series, allowing for one drop.

Entry Fees

Race 1 is complimentary for boats entered in the Kingfisher Bay Resort Regatta. Races 2, 3 and 4 are $10 per person per race, payable with the online registration, prior to sign-on.

Prizes

Prizes are awarded on PBH (Performance Based Handicap) at the end of the series:

1st Overall — Perpetual Whip Cracker Trophy + $250 Road Tech Marine voucher
2nd — $100 Road Tech Marine voucher
3rd — $50 Road Tech Marine voucher

Safety & Radio

All competitors must sign on daily with the Yacht Squadron Starter on VHF 74, advising intentions to start and persons on board. The support boat (marked STARTER) is not a rescue vessel. The official rescue authority is Marine Rescue Hervey Bay on VHF 73. Each boat must hold valid third-party liability insurance with a minimum cover of $10,000,000 per event.
