Yacht Squadron welcomes support from Fraser Coast Regional Council

The Hervey Bay Boat Club Yacht Squadron has welcomed a grant allocation from the Fraser Coast Regional Council to assist in essential upgrades to its race and operational support boat.

The Squadron received $8760 through the Council’s 2024-25 Community Grants Round 2 program.

The funding will be used to upgrade and modernise the electronics and navigation equipment of its operational support boat, and to replace the support boat’s inflatable tender.

Commodore Tony Murray said the support boat was used for a range of Squadron activities particularly laying courses, starting and finishing races and conducting regattas. The tender is used for ship to shore crew transfers.

“The Council’s support will enable the safety, reliability and capability of these key assets to be upgraded, and help the Squadron operate effectively as a community sporting group”, he said.

“We really appreciate the Council’s commitment to supporting groups through the grants program.”

The Yacht Squadron is the only club on the Fraser Coast providing opportunities for yachting and trailer-sailer racing and cruising. It complements other Hervey Bay clubs offering off-the-beach sailing of smaller craft.

The Squadron is an intra-club of the Hervey Bay Boat Club alongside other clubs including dragon boats, outriggers and fishing.
